LivClean purchases the offsets from transportation taking place within the province of Alberta.
The various fuel efficient strategies include aerodynamic improvements (tractor trailer gap fairing, trailer belly skirts, aerodynamic profile tractor, etc.), speed and driver management, truck idling control strategies, intermodal transportation (trucking and railroad transportation), long combination vehicles strategy and tire efficient technology (low-rolling resistance tires).
Bison Transport operates one of the largest fleets in Canada. Since 2003, Bison Transport has gradually implemented several energy efficient measures reducing the overall fuel consumption in their truck fleet. This project achieves GHG emissions reduction by adopting several fuel efficient strategies to consume less fuel (diesel), resulting in an overall reduction in GHG emission of over 40,000 tonnes annually.
Located in St-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Prorec Inc. works together with agricultural nutritionists to convert food by-products into animal food for the agro-food industry. The project utilized various types of organic residues left over from the manufacturing of quality foods such as cookies, bread, flour, candy and chocolate. In the recycling operation, the residual nutrients are extracted and transformed into animal feed. By recycling waste that would have been discarded in landfill, where it would undergo anaerobic (i.e. in the absence of oxygen) decomposition, the project avoids methane emissions, as well as the fossil fuel emissions from transporting the waste. In operation since 2003, the project is estimated to have avoided about 190,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.
Located in Scurry County, West Texas, this project uses a state-of-the-art 100 MW gas-fired combined cycle (CC) power plant to generate electricity for use at SACROC (the Scurry Area Canyon Reef Oil Committee natural gas processing and injection facility). At the SACROC facility, Kinder Morgan uses a combination of refrigeration and membrane separation processes to separate and recover hydrocarbons from the associated gas that is recovered with oil during EOR operations. The new power plant supplies all of its net generation to support the SACROC operations, displacing grid generated electricity. The power plant is equipped with inlet air cooling and humidification systems to maximize power output and efficiency as well as steam injection (SI) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology to meet stringent NOx emission requirements. Since its implementation the project has resulted in a total net reduction of about 420,000 metric tonnes of CO2e (as of May 2007).
Offsets from specific projects are subject to availability.
A cool way to actually avoid, reduce and eliminate carbon emissions from our atmosphere!
